Provincial Executive Meeting Summaries
Saturday, April 24, 1999

President MacLennan called the meeting to order at 9:36 a.m. Regular roll call was taken and new PE members, alternates and observers were welcomed.

A letter from the Alberta Federation of Labour was circulated which reiterated a promise made on the AFL Convention Floor to work with AUPE to try and reach an acceptable resolution to AUPE's concerns with respect to dues. A resolution had been submitted with respect to a cap on dues at 30,000 members which was defeated.

The following is a list of some of the motions dealt with:

MOTION: That strike pay for the members of Local 057/007 be increased to $50.00 per day.

MOTION: To enter into formal negotiations/discussions with the Canadian Health Care Guild with respect to them joining the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees.

MOTION: To recommend that renovations commence on the Edmonton Headquarters building.

The above motion was deferred to the June 19, 1999 meeting in order for costs to be determined and presented.

MOTION TO AMEND: To amend as follows: "That the rebate structure be increased by three percent (3%) effective July 1, 1998 as per Policy 5-2."

This motion was originally from the Finance Committee at 5% but was reduced to 3%.

MOTION: To endorse production of the Education Video by an expenditure of up to $25,000 for the production.

MOTION: That Locals with less than 20 members located at Secondary Satellite Units or Offices shall be considered One Site-Locals. However, Headquarters shall pay expenses incurred by those members attending union functions.

This motion was referred back to the Finance Committee.

MOTION: To recommend that expenses incurred by Local 106 due to the additional members on the Bargaining Committee that were required to balance with the Canadian Health Care Guild Bargaining Committee be paid by Headquarters.

Everyone was reminded that Constitutional amendment Resolutions need to be submitted to the President's Office by July 7, 1999.

The next Provincial Executive meeting will be held on June 19, 1999.
