Provincial Executive Meeting
September 2004, 2004

The Provincial Executive meeting was held on Saturday, September 11, 2004 in Leduc, Alberta.

The President welcomed the new members of the Provincial Executive and observers in attendance.

The AUPE staffing compliment will be increased by 12 positions.

A representative from the Edmonton & District Labour Council made a presentation with a proposal for a union park with banners and plaques telling the story of “The hands that built Edmonton” following, the PE passed a motion to donate money to this project.

At lunchtime the PE observed a video entitled “I never Thought I’d be Homeless” which showed a lack of housing in the City of Edmonton for low income families.

Policies 5-35 - Chapter Funding and 7-2 – Life Member Attendance at Convention were amended. The Policy Statement on Pay Equity was split into two policies now being 18-3 – Policy Statement on Pay Equity and 18-4 What is Pay Equity.

Donations were made to the Dow Centennial Centre in Fort Saskatchewan out of the Advertising Budget as well as the Workers’ Health Centre for the “Workplace Plays’ being dramatized at High Schools throughout Alberta.

Life Memberships were awarded to four members and will be presented at Convention.

A number of motions were forwarded back to Committees for further review.

The next meeting is scheduled on October 12 – 16, 2004 . This meeting does not adjourn until the close of Convention as the Provincial Executive is available to meet at any time should they be required to do so.
