Provincial Executive Meeting
Feb 09, 2008
The meeting was held on Saturday, February 09, 2008 at Headquarters,
Edmonton, Alberta with President Knight in the Chair. The meeting
commenced at 9:03 A.M.
Regular reports by the President, Vice-Presidents and Committees
were given. Due to the length of the meeting, a number of issues
were referred to the following PE meeting.
A number of financial transactions were approved:
- That two million dollars be moved from General
Revenue to the Defense Fund.
- To donate $5,000 towards the Public Interest
Alberta public awareness campaign “Who cares Alberta’.
- To support the Public Interest Alberta 2nd
annual conference entitled “Not For Sale: Promoting Public Solutions in Today’s
Alberta’ by purchasing 2 tables of 6 for 12 delegates for
a total amount of $1800.
- To purchase the Partner Level with the Job Safety Skills
Society of $10,000 for a three year commitment.
- To sponsor and contribute $2,000 towards the Public Interest
Alberta’s, 2nd Annual Conference on April 2-6, 2008.
- That 5,000 copies of the Election Booklet be produced at
a cost of approximately $10,000.
- To support the “Save my Pension Campaign” and
advance the monies not to exceed $120,000 to initiate this campaign.
To support the “Save My Pension Campaign” in the
amount of approximately $30,000.
A Pension Seminar for the Edmonton area is to be held prior to
June 30, 2008.
The Provincial Executive approved That BDO Dunwoody LLP. Chartered
Accountants be retained as auditors for the 2007/2008 budget
year.
The Committee on Political Action had a presentation by the consultant
from Aero Communications who produced the anti-Conservative election
ads which are currently running. The Provincial Executive assigned
$300,000.00 to Phase II of the Albertans for Change Campaign.
The Motion to pay time off for Union business for members to
support political campaigns was defeated.
The following Policies were amended:
3-15 Education – Kilometrage Decreased for Expense - Reimbursement
5-18 Policy for Direct Billing to Headquarters Clarified
The next meeting is scheduled for April 12, 2008 at AUPE Headquarters,
Edmonton.
