Provincial Executive Meeting
February, 2005


The meeting was called to order at 9:02 A.M in Edmonton, Alberta with President MacLennan in the Chair.

Young Activists Seminars have been scheduled across the province. Any members 30 years or under who are interested are encouraged to attend.

A Grandparent’s Day Picnic sponsored by the Women’s Committee is scheduled for September 8, 2005 at the Legislature Grounds in Edmonton.

The Greater Edmonton Alliance is holding their founding meeting on May 15th and the union has committed to send as many people as possible. The Mayor of Edmonton will be in attendance and if this meeting is successful, the next step is to move to Calgary and south. Three main topics will be living wage, housing and methamphetamines and their effect on the community. We are actively encouraging members to attend.

The confidentiality of membership lists was discussed and a legal position is forthcoming to ensure information is provided without violating FOIP or PIPA. The Legislative Committee will draft a new policy to ensure we are providing the needed information following the legislation that pertains to the confidential nature of the list.

Amendments were made to the Policies and Procedures Manual.
The Union will now recognize members at the following service milestones – 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, etc.

Brother Mark McCullough, Executive Director of the Alberta Building Trades Council spoke on the problems with the actions of both the provincial and federal government regarding Division 8 of the Labour Relations Code, that is continuing to be used to reduce wages and benefits paid to the members of the Alberta Building Trades Council.

The next meeting will be held on Friday and Saturday, June 17 and 18, 2005 at the Ramada Hotel and Conference Centre, Edmonton, Alberta.
