About the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE)
Provincial Executive Meeting
February 07, 2004
The Provincial Executive meeting was held on Saturday, February 07,
2004 in Calgary, Alberta.
The President welcomed the Provincial Executive and observers in attendance.
A number of motions were passed by the Provincial Executive:
- That the 2005 Labour Education School be held at the Banff Centre,
February 27 – March 3, 2005.
The Membership Services’ Committee will review the policy regarding
labour school, accommodations, etc. A survey will be done at the Jasper
school and the results will be dealt with by the Committee.
- That Policy 5-17 be amended to increase the kilometer rate from
35 cents to 40 cents per kilometer.
- That the Finance Committee review whether the interest from the
building contingency fund be used to help out the Members Benefits
fund.
The issue of Area Councils was discussed. Since Convention passed a
change in the Constitution whereby every member is assigned to an Area
Council, the Executive is promoting Area Councils in every community
together with staff through AGM’s, inaugural meetings, etc.
The PE feels AUPE should do something to formally recognize the Alberta
Centennial in 2005. However, the Committee needs ideas or suggestions.
Please email the Executive office with your suggestions.
Convention Hotels were discussed. The Delta Inn South is for double
occupancy only. Any Locals requesting single occupancy rooms will have
to stay at the Greenwood and Terrace Inn. It was noted some Locals have
booked rooms beyond their delegates and locals are requested to try
to help ensure as many delegates as possible can stay in the Delta.
A Grandparent’s day picnic will once again be held on September
2nd, Tuesday at the band shell of the Legislature grounds in Edmonton.
As Vice-President Webber is resigning to accept a staff position, an
election will be held at the next PE meeting and a Vice-President will
be elected from the PE to hold office until Convention 2004 at which
time a
Vice-President will be elected as per the Constitution.
The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, April 3, 2004. (Was originally
scheduled for Grande Prairie but will now be held at the Royal Executive
Inn in Leduc).
The meeting adjourned at 2:10 P.M.
