Provincial Executive Meeting
December 6, 2003

The Provincial Executive meeting was held on Saturday, December 6, 2003 at the Greenwood Inn, Edmonton, Alberta.

The President thanked all PE members involved in the General Services' bargaining information pickets held this past week in various locations around the province and for helping ensure the good turnouts in each location.

There had been excellent media coverage as well as part of increasing public awareness of the government’s offer.
At 11:00 A.M. a one minute of silence would be observed to mark the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women to reflect what effect violence has on society and what we as a union and as individuals can do to stop the violence.

The AUPE staffing complement was increased by 15 positions arising from Bill 27.

A number of additional AUPE offices will be opened in Grande Prairie and a south side and downtown satellite office in Edmonton.

Outgoing Vice-Presidents Peggy Stewart and Guy Smith were in attendance and acknowledged for their years of contribution to the Union as Vice-Presidents and presented with plaques. Both received standing ovations from the Provincial Executive.

A one-day sectoral conference will be held the day prior to the 2004 Convention with Local delegates for convention being the sectoral conference participants.

The 2004 Sectoral Conference and Convention will be held October 13 - 16, 2004 at the Delta Edmonton South.

The 2004 PE meetings are scheduled for February 7th in Calgary, April 3rd in Grande Prairie; June 19th in Lethbridge, September 11th in Edmonton, October 12th in Edmonton and December 4th in Calgary.

An amendment was made to Policy 4-9 Vice-Presidents’ Expenses.

It was also noted that Convention accommodations at the Delta Edmonton South are double occupancy only due to a small number of rooms there. Any Locals seeking single occupancy will be asked to book into one of the hotels in the vicinity.

It was recommended to the Finance committee that a comprehensive policy that deals in an equitable manner be reviewed with a view to the issue of chapter and local funding issues.

The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, February 7, 2004 in Calgary Alberta (location to be announced).

The meeting adjourned at 3:31 P.M.
