Provincial Executive Meeting
April 21, 2007

The meeting was held on April 21 and was called to order at 9:06 A.M. in Edmonton, Alberta with President Knight in the Chair.
Regular reports by the President, Vice-Presidents and Committees were given.

The Provincial Executive passed a motion to forward the PE package and Minutes on to their Local Executives.

As well, the following Motions were passed:
1. To forward $20,000 (annual sponsorship contribution) to Parkland Institute;

2. To forward $10,000 to the Public Interest Alberta along with a letter requesting assistance with our ‘Change the Labour Law’ campaign.

3. To forward $20,000 (2007 dues) to Greater Edmonton Alliance with a letter requesting assistance with our ‘Change the Labour Law’ campaign.

4. To sponsor 2 delegates to attend the Tommy Douglas; Vision for Medicare Conference.

5. To allot $2,000 to the Human Rights Committee for t-shirts.
6. That the Anti-Privatization Committee proceed with the production of an Anti-Privatization DVD, and not to exceed the amount of $30,000.

7. That the Health Care Sector Conference proceed on June 19 and 20, 2008.

8. AUPE to continue to hold Grandparent’s Day picnics each year in the City of Edmonton and, if possible in Calgary and in addition, BBQ’s be held where practical near long term care facilities to help bring public awareness to the lack of funding and other issues regarding long term careThe Policy on Life Membership 7-4 was amended. The Membership Services Committee is looking at further amendments and welcomes any ideas/suggestions and asked they be forwarded to the Committee before their meeting in mid-May.

Policy 14-4 Political Donations was sent back to the Committee on Political Action for further review.

The Women’s Committee and Human Rights Committee brought their 2006 Convention Resolutions to PE for action.

The Provincial Executive reviewed round table seating as opposed to row seating for the 2007 Convention and have decided to stay with round table seating. They will draw numbers at the next PE meeting as to where each Local will sit.

The next meeting is scheduled for June 22 and 23 in Calgary.
