About the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Biographies
Patricia Newel
Membership Services Officer Edmonton City Centre Office Patricia Newel provides services to AUPE's health care sector members from the union's headquarters in Edmonton. She also represents AUPE on the Nursing Advisory Committee of Alberta and the Alberta College of Licensed Practical Nurses. Trained as a Licensed Practical Nurse, Newel started at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton after graduation in 1968. She also trained as an operating room LPN and continued at the Royal Alex until 2001, when she joined AUPE as an MSO. Newel held numerous elected positions with AUPE before joining staff, including secretary, vice-chair and chair of Local 106 at the Royal Alex. She also served on the Local 106 bargaining team for all negotiations since Royal Alex staff joined AUPE in 1982. She was also chair of the multi-facility bargaining team.
