Biographies
Lorraine Ellis
Vice-President
Lorraine Ellis was elected Vice-President on Oct. 27, 2007, during
AUPE’s 31st Annual Convention.
Ellis is employed as a Business Manager with Alberta Employment, Immigration
and Industry. At the time of her election, she held the position of
Council Representative for Local 002.
Ellis has a long history of service within AUPE and its predecessor
organization, the Civil Service Association of Alberta. In 1971 she
attended her first CSA convention as a delegate and in 1976 she was
a founding member of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees. She
has been a delegate to each AUPE convention for more than 35 years.
Ellis demonstrated her commitment to her co-workers through 35 years
of service as a volunteer Union Steward. In addition, she served in
a variety of roles within AUPE, including branch secretary, council
representative, standing committee member and Local 001 Chair. She
was previously an AUPE Vice-President between 1981 and 1987.
Ellis represented AUPE on worksite and regional Occupational Health
and Safety steering committees, helping to educate more than 400 employees
in the Edmonton region in health and safety issues. These members achieved
their OH&S Certificate of Recognition in 2006.
When Ellis left government in 1988 for work in the private sector,
she was awarded a Life Membership in AUPE. She returned to government
employment and membership in Local 002 in 1990.
