AUPE Slave Lake documentary wins Rosie award
CALGARY – The AUPE documentary video “Loss and Hope,” which tells the story of the May 15 Slave Lake Wildfire, won a Rosie Award for best documentary under 30 minutes at the annual Alberta Film and Television Awards on Saturday.
Slave Lake begins to rebuild after fire
As residents of Slave Lake begin filtering back into their fire-ravaged community, the daunting work of rebuilding their community begins.
AUPE Vice President Erez Raz, who traveled to the evacuee centres over the past couple of weeks, has no doubt they’re up to the task.
Members help out
AUPE members volunteer at the emergency relief centre in Athabasca on May 20. Approximately 1,000 Slave Lake residents are staying at the centre until they can return home. AUPE members from Athabasca, as well as Wabasca, High Prairie, and Peace River, have worked through the weekend providing services to residents of Slave Lake displaced by the fire.

AUPE earmarks funds for Slave Lake relief, plus assistance of members hit by fire
The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees will donate $25,000 to the Canadian Red Cross for relief of Slave Lake residents driven from their homes by fire, says Executive Secretary-Treasurer Bill Dechant.
