Women’s Committee seeks contestants for ‘That AUPE 70s Show’
EDMONTON – AUPE Convention delegates will have a golden opportunity to showcase their talents while raising money for Alberta women’s shelters during “That AUPE 70s Show,” a talent show that will take centre stage on the evening Oct. 26 during the union’s 30th Annual Convention.
The AUPE Women’s Committee is organizing the event, which will see union members entertain delegates on the Thursday evening of Convention, before facing a panel of judges.
“The challenge is on,” said Susan Maruca, staff advisor to AUPE’s Women’s Committee, which is organizing the event. “We want to see as many people showcase their respective talents as possible.”
The top three contestants will be eligible for terrific prizes, Maruca said.
Members of the audience, meanwhile, will be able to bid on silent auction items set up beside the stage during the show, which is scheduled to run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Proceeds from the silent auction will be donated to the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters.
A total of 5,929 women and 5,558 children used emergency shelter services across Alberta in 2003/2004, Maruca said.
“AUPE members can play an important role by participating in this important fundraiser, both as contestants and as silent auction bidders,” she said.
Those interested in becoming contestants may contact Susan Maruca in Edmonton at 780-414-7973 or by e-mail at s.maruca@aupe.org
