Vice-President Azocar announces resignation
A letter from Vice-President Sandra Azocar and a statement from President Guy Smith regarding Azocar’s resignation is below.
From Vice-President Azocar
Brothers and sisters:
I wanted to personally update you on opportunities that have come up in my life and that I have decided to pursue.
I have been hired as the Executive Director of Friends of Medicare and I will be leaving my position as a Child Welfare Worker on July 31, 2012.
Given that I will no longer be a member of AUPE, it is with mixed feelings that my position as an AUPE vice-president will also have to terminate effective this date.
I have been employed for the Government of Alberta since 1987 and I was extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to be an active part of AUPE since this time. Everything that I am and that I have learned, I owe to our union. I have met some wonderful people throughout all these years and the friendships, strength and solidarity that come from all this, are not easily left behind.
To say that I will miss you all is an understatement. It is all the members that we represent that make this position so rewarding. Thank you for your support in all these years of my vice presidency with AUPE. Thank you for challenging me and for pushing me to become a better person and leader. I want to thank you for your friendship and for letting me be part of your world.
Solidarity forever brothers and sisters and keep up the good fight!!
Sandra Azocar
A message from AUPE President, Guy Smith
Brothers and sisters:
I would like to thank Sister Azocar for her years of dedicated service to AUPE members. Her role as a passionate activist and leader in Local 006 and as a vice-president has made a huge impact in building strength and solidarity within our union. All will miss her tireless work and commitment.
I want to wish her all the best in her opportunity as Executive Director of the Friends of Medicare. I know that we will continue to benefit from Sister Azocar’s passion and dedication as she confronts challenges in her new role. I look forward to continued work in our relationship with the Friends of Medicare.
As a result of the previous announcement by VP Sister Sandy Kyle of her intention to resign as a VP at Convention, and now with Sister Azocar’s departure, there will be elections for two new vice-presidents at this year’s annual Convention, Oct 18th-20th, 2012.
Guy Smith,
President, Alberta Union of Provincial Employees
