Valley Park Manor rally
Around 200 people gathered outside Valley Park Manor in Red Deer to protest the planned closure of that facility and the Red Deer Nursing home in the fall. The plan would have residents in the facilities move to Extendicare’s new Michner Hill facility, and the two publicly owned facilities closed. AUPE Vice-President Philipia Bates Renouf attended the rally. “We are here to defend the rights of our seniors, our people, our families, our neighbours that have been paying taxes for years to keep this facility open and to have publicly run health care, long-term care,” she told the gathered crowd of supporters.
