Twelve team spots left for Fifth Annual Curling Funspiel

EDMONTON—Enthusiastic curlers have already filled half of the team spots available for the Fifth Annual AUPE Curling Funspiel, set to take place March 26-27 at the Spruce Grove Curling Club.

“The New Year has started out great for registrations,” said event organizer Heather Seitz. “We can accommodate a maximum of 24 teams at the Funspiel, and 12 teams have already registered.

“We encourage everyone who is considering entering a team to get their registration in as soon as possible. We don’t want people to be disappointed,” she added.

A “Vegas Night” will be held following the conclusion of games on Friday, Mar. 26, Seitz said. Participants will be given poker chips they can use at Texas Hold ’em and Black Jack tables. At the end of the evening, participants will trade in their poker chips for entry forms, which will then be put into a draw for prizes.

The cost per team for the event is $200. The fee guarantees teams three six-end games as well as the opportunity to win door prizes and an entry in the “loser’s draw.” The only restriction for entry is that each team must have a least one AUPE member or employee.

On Saturday, a full dinner will follow the final draw. There will also be a silent auction, a social and the chance to win draw-to-the-button prizes.

Following the tradition of previous years, proceeds from the event will go to a charity selected through a random draw held during the event.

Locals, companies or other organizations that would like to help sponsor the event with cash or prize donations may contact Seitz at 780-930-3314 or Gil Laflamme at 780-916-5100 or 780-930-3375.

The registration deadline is March 12 at 4:30 p.m. There are 12 team spots remaining.
