Myrna Wright receives DOVE award
Myrna Wright, an LPN at the Pincher Creek Health Centre, received the 2011 DOVE award today at Headquarters. In her acceptance speech, Wright spoke about her drive to ensure that all workers were treated equally. “I went to another union meeting the next April,” she said after relating how she was elected as chair of her chapter at her first union meeting, “where they told me my wages. And they were not my wages. So that’s when I started to fight.” In that instance she achieved back pay for those who needed it. Wright said she expects to keep fighting “until they put me away!” The DOVE award, which stands for Day of Validation and Equity, is presented each year to AUPE women activists who work to better the situation for all their brothers and sisters.
