EDMONTON – The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees and Park Place Seniors Living, the company that owns Hardisty Care Centre, reached a tentative agreement late last night for close to 80 striking Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides at the facility.

President Guy Smith will be available to comment to media at Hardisty Care Centre, 6420 101 Ave, at 11 a.m. today.

“After 60 days on strike, we’re pleased a tentative agreement has finally been reached that both sides can agree on,” said AUPE President Guy Smith.

“This is a good first agreement and one we can use to build on in future bargaining,” said Smith.

The tentative agreement was reached with the assistance of respected mediator, Andrew Sims Q.C. It covers AUPE members of local 047/039.

A meeting will be held with members to go over details of the tentative agreement early next week. Members will then vote on the tentative agreement early next week.

The union is recommending ratification of the tentative agreement.

Members at Hardisty Care Centre went on strike May 22 after bargaining for a first collective agreement reached an impasse.
