St. Michael’s Long Term Care Auxiliary Nursing Care employees ratify new collective agreement
EDMONTON – Alberta Union of Provincial Employees ANC members employed with St. Michael’s Long Term Care Centre in Edmonton recently ratified a new collective agreement based on a mediator’s recommendations.
“The bargaining committee at St. Michael’s is happy to have concluded this round of bargaining with a settlement that matches the provincial multi-health region agreement in most key areas,” said Staff negotiator Steve Nimchuk.
The AUPE Local 047/016 bargaining committee and the employer reported their ratification of the recommended terms of settlement to the government-appointed mediator on Mar. 20.
The new four-year agreement, which expires June 30, 2012, contains retroactive pay increases including a 10 per cent market adjustment and 5 per cent general increase effective July 1, 2008. Further scheduled wage increases include 5 per cent effective July 1, 2008, 4.5 per cent effective July 1, 2010, and 4.5 per cent effective July 1, 2011.
The agreement also increases evening, night and weekend shift differential premiums to match those of the Capital Care and provincial multi agreements. Salaries in all classifications now match the multi agreement.
Other benefit enhancements include improved vacation entitlement, five supplementary vacation days for employees with 25 years of experience, improved dental plan maximums, a $250 health spending account effective in 2010, and increase in bereavement leave to five days and an expanded definition of “immediate family” for bereavement leave.
