Show your solidarity with Monterey Place staff
Saturday, Aug. 25, marks the 60th day of the Monterey Place lockout in northeast Calgary. The 90 members of AUPE Local 048, Chapter 006 will mark two months of solidarity on Sunday, Aug. 26 with a potluck lunch, and all AUPE members are invited to come out and show their support.
The seniors facility’s owner, Triple A Living Communities Inc., locked out its employees on June 26 after they refused to accept a contract offer that would keep their wages and benefits well below the industry standard. Meanwhile, Triple A receives taxpayer funding to pay nursing staff at the same level as AHS employees.
After two months on the picket line, solidarity remains strong and the members are determined to win a fair collective agreement.
Picketing on Sunday will run from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., with lunch between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Monterey Place is located at 4288 Catalina Blvd N.E. in Calgary.
