Reminder: AUPE Grandparents Day barbecue Sept. 6
EDMONTON – The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees’ Women’s Committee will host its annual Grandparents Day barbecue at the bandshell on the Provincial Legislature grounds tomorrow, Sept. 6, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
More than 1,500 AUPE members, seniors, politicians and members of the public are expected at the barbecue.
Media are encouraged to attend.
“Alberta’s grandparents have done a lot for this province and it is important to take the time to recognize their ongoing contribution to Alberta society, and to reflect on the quality of care we give them once they need assistance,” said Amanda McMurren, acting chair of the Women’s Committee.
Speakers include representatives from all elected political parties, as well as AUPE President Guy Smith, Public Interest Alberta Executive Director Bill Moore-Kilgannon, and Friends of Medicare Executive Director Sandra Azocar.
There will be musical entertainment, and free beef, chicken and veggie burgers, hot dogs and beverages.
