EDMONTON – Prizes and registrations continue to flow in for the first-ever AUPE United Way Golf Tournament scheduled for Aug. 27 at Edmonton’s River Ridge Golf & Country Club.

Insurance provider, The Personal, one of AUPE’s newest discounters, has donated $3,000, which will be used to purchase silent auction items and/or door prizes.

The donation will help organizers ensure that participants have an opportunity to win or bid on some “terrific prizes,” said Scott Pattison, tournament organizer.

“The Personal has truly stepped up big to ensure this, our first tournament fundraiser, is a success both for the United Way and for the players,” said Pattison.

“All of our sponsors have really thrown their support behind this tournament. I would encourage our members to continue supporting these businesses (see list below).

Several AUPE Locals have also generously thrown their financial support behind the tournament, Pattison said. (see list below)

To date, more than 100 people have registered to play in the “best ball” Texas Scramble tournament, with a minimum of 120 players required for River Ridge staff to close the course to the general public.

Members can register individually or as a team.

“I would encourage those interested in playing in the tourney to register soon, as spots are filling up rapidly,” said Pattison. “It’s going to be an outstanding event.”

The cost of the tournament is $90, which includes: 18 holes of golf; an electric cart; an eight-ounce steak dinner; $10,000 hole-in-one, longest drive and putting prizes; a long list of door prizes; and terrific silent auction items such as vacation packages valued between $450 and $2,100, Team Canada game-worn jersey from Austria, hot air balloon rides, 2006 Edmonton Eskimos regular season ticket packages and a flat-screen TV.

Golfers will also have an opportunity to drive home a new 2005 Pontiac G6 — a hole-in-one prize being sponsored by Morgex Insurance.

AUPE President Dan MacLennan encouraged AUPE’s 30 Locals to help sponsor the tournament with a cash or gift donation, and by “sponsoring members from their respective Locals to play in the tournament.”
