Red Deer Area Council to host barbecue in honour of AUPE’s 30th anniversary
RED DEER – AUPE’s Red Deer Area Council is firing up the barbecue Aug. 25 for members and their families to celebrate AUPE’s 30th anniversary.
The free event — which will proceed rain or shine — will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Rotary Park in Red Deer.
AUPE President Dan MacLennan and members of the Red Deer Area Council will also be in attendance.
One of the event’s organizer, “and chief cook,” Rose Bouchie, is encouraging members to drop by for a free burger, hot dog or refreshment in honour of the 30th anniversary of Alberta’s largest union.
“This is an important milestone, to celebrate our great union’s 30th birthday,” said Bouchie, a member of Local 001/025, which represents 365 employees who work for the Alberta Government in Red Deer.
“What better way to celebrate a birthday then with a party, especially for a labour organization that has done so much for working Albertans.”
Event organizers are grateful to Kipp Scott Motors, of Red Deer, for donating the use of their grill for the occasion.
