Provincial Executive Meeting Summary

The Provincial Executive meeting was held on Thursday and Friday, June 10 and 11, 2010 at AUPE Headquarters. The meeting commenced at 9:02 A.M. on June 10th with Vice-President Heistad in the Chair. President Smith was invited to attend the Government Budget Discussion in the morning and was in attendance at the PE meeting immediately following that.

Regular reports by the President, Executive Secretary-Treasurer, Vice-Presidents and Standing Committees were given.

A number of Policies were amended/adopted/rescinded as follows:

  • New Policy 5-38 Gift Certificates;
  • Amended Policy 5-20 Reimbursement for Child Care Expenses;
  • New Policy 15-11 Standing Committee Appointments;
  • Renumbered Policies 15-12 and 15-13;
  • New Policy 18-3 DOVE Award.

A new Policy on Anti-Privatization Cost Sharing was forwarded back to the Anti-Privatization Committee to work on.

A number of financial transactions/donations were approved:

  1. $1,000 for documentary on honoring surviving Trekkers;
  2. $20,000 to Diakonos Retreat Society, Red Deer Chapter;
  3. $2,500 or up to for lunch for Anti-Privatization Co Seminar;
  4. $27,500 to Public Interest Alberta;
  5. $625. Associate Membership to AUMA;
  6. Transfer $3,000,000 from Operating General account to Defense Fund Reserve;
  7. Transfer $500,000 from Operating General Account to Members’ Benefits Benevolent Investment Fund: and
  8. Transfer $500,000 from Operating General Account to Members’ Benefits Education Investment Fund.

The Finance Committee is to review suggestions/input with respect to increasing the meal allowance. They are also to review and establish priorities and do a side-by-side comparison of all organizations (PIA, GEA, FOM, etc.) and how much AUPE has contributed and how they align with the interests of AUPE and its members.

The Education Department is looking at holding joint conferences concurrently in the same venue and time frame next June.

The PE passed a recommendation from the Environmental Committee to provide the AUPE Policy and Procedure Manual electronically and any further updates are to be e-mailed to the recipients that currently receive the Manual.

A draft budget was reviewed with the PE with a final copy to be presented at the September PE meeting for furtherance to Convention.

The next regular PE meeting is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, September 10 and 11, 2010 at AUPE Headquarters in Edmonton.
