Provincial Executive Meeting Summary
The meeting was called to order at 9:05 a.m. with President MacLennan in the Chair. There were many new PE members in attendance and everyone, including the observers, introduced themselves.
The PE viewed the video ‘A Union Made for Alberta’ which is being mailed to all health care General Support Services employees who must choose which union will represent them in the upcoming runoff vote as a result of Bill 27.
The Finance Committee presented a motion that all rebates to locals be electronically deposited. A resolution with respect to affiliation to an Area Council was forwarded to Convention as well as the proposed 2003-2004 proposed budget.
The Ad Hoc Pay Equity Committee forwarded a resolution to Convention 2003 dealing with pay equity legislation.
The Women’s Committee will hold a barbeque on Friday, September 5, 2003 at the Legislature Grounds from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. focusing on the state of long term care in Alberta. As well, a motion carried that at Convention and in Convention there be included a statement of zero tolerance toward harassment and, where an allegation(s) of harassment is substantiated, the offending member shall be sent home.
The Ad Hoc Committee on Youth Mobilization will hold a Conference on September 19-21 at the Mayfield Inn in Edmonton. Youths are to submit their applications. The Ad Hoc Youth Committee forwarded a resolution to Convention 2003.
A Policy on Standing and Ad Hoc Committee Attendance was adopted and will be included in the Policy and Procedures Manual.
The meeting adjourned at 1:18 P.M. The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, September 13, 2003 and will be held in Calgary.
