PC leadership candidate taking wrong track on health care - AUPE President
EDMONTON – PC Leadership candidate Gary Mar’s interest in expanding private health care is the last thing Albertans want or need, says AUPE President Guy Smith.
“Nobody is afraid of discussing private health care – they’re tired of it. Over and over Albertans have sent a clear message that they don’t want private health care,” Smith said in response to Mar’s comments on health policy Wednesday.
“Mr. Mar’s fascination with private health care suggests he’s been out of the province for too long. What Albertans want is shorter emergency room wait times, better access to family doctors, and better supports for people dealing with mental illness,” said Smith.
Gary Mar was the Alberta envoy to Washington, D.C. for the last four years.
