One week left for Executive Committee to submit statements to Direct Impact
EDMONTON – Candidates for AUPE’s six-member Executive Committee now have just one week to submit short statements for publication in the pre-Convention issue of Direct Impact.
Because 2009 is an election year, there will be an election for President, Executive Secretary-Treasurer and four Vice-President positions during the 2009 Convention, which is scheduled to run from Oct. 22 to 24, 2009.
AUPE allows candidates for Executive Committee positions the opportunity to have a statement of no more than 500 words published in the fall edition of Direct Impact, which is distributed to all AUPE members. AUPE will also publish photos of the candidates if pictures are included with the submission.
In order to qualify for publication of their statement and photo in the quarterly AUPE publication, candidates must have declared their intention to run more than 45 days prior to the Convention. In 2009, that deadline falls on Labour Day, Sept. 7, although candidates are encouraged to file their submissions earlier if possible.
Submissions to Impact may be made by mail, fax or email. In each case, submissions should be clearly marked as Executive Committee Impact Submissions, and be sent attention David Climenhaga, AUPE Communications Director.
AUPE’s Mailing address is:
10451 – 170 Street NW
Edmonton, AB
T5P 4S7
Email submissions may be sent directly to David Climenhaga at d.climenhaga@aupe.org. Please also send a cc. to Graphic designer Jon Olsen at j.olsen@aupe.org.
Faxed submissions should be sent to 1-888-388-2873 (toll-free throughout Alberta) or to 780-930-3392. Faxes must be clearly marked Executive Committee Impact Submission to the attention of David Climenhaga. Note that photographs transmitted by fax cannot be used.

Candidates are reminded that AUPE Policy 2-7.1 (Convention Political Activity) states that members of AUPE’s staff – who are forbidden to engage in political activity on behalf of any Executive Committee candidate – “must be free from positive or negative pressure from candidates or their supporters to breach this policy.”
