Nursing staff reaches tentative agreement with Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health
EDMONTON – The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees, Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health reached a tentative agreement, June 27, for close to 13,500 Auxiliary Nursing staff across the province.
The tentative agreement also includes Auxiliary Nursing staff at Lamont Health Care Centre and the Gray House Guild.
“We’re pleased a tentative agreement was reached that both sides could agree on,” said AUPE President Guy Smith.
The tentative three-year agreement, retroactive to April 1, 2012, includes a wage increase of three per cent each year for the life of the agreement; improvements to health benefits, including conversion to a Flex Spending Account starting Jan. 1, 2013; supplemental vacation equal to other AHS union contracts and northern incentive allowance (AHS only).
The agreement covers AUPE members of locals 040, 041, 043, 044, 045 and 046.
“This group is an essential part of the safe, sustainable and quality delivery of health care Albertans deserve,” said Smith.
“Both AUPE and the employer are recommending ratification of the tentative agreement,” said Terry Agoto, AUPE Negotiator.
Bargaining began between the parties in March.
AUPE is 80,000 working Albertans. Close to half work in public, not-for-profit and for-profit health care.
