No mention of Alberta Hospital Edmonton in new mental health plan: AUPE President
EDMONTON – AUPE President Guy Smith criticized the new mental health and addictions plan released today by Alberta Health and Wellness for failing to include any mention of Alberta Hospital Edmonton and other similar facilities.
“During our campaign to save Alberta Hospital Edmonton from the wrecking ball, doctors, nurses, patients and families were adamant that the beds at the hospital are an essential part of mental health services,” said Smith.
“It’s worrying that the department makes almost no mention of the importance of acute psychiatric care beds, which patients, families, and physicians see as an integral part of the mental health support system.”
Smith will discuss the omission with the Minister as soon as possible.
