New members welcomed into Local 049 Chapter 003
Following a successful reconsideration vote on Oct. 30, office personnel at CapitalCare’s Lynwood seniors’ facility in Edmonton joined the bargaining unit, bringing the total number of GSS and ANC members in the Chapter to more than 500.
The vote was successful despite a concerted campaign by the employer to discourage the employees from joining AUPE. Local 049 Chair Elda Glover, along with members Anne Spence and Sandra Knecht, worked hard to dispel any misunderstandings and misinformation the office personnel had.
“I want welcome the new members to the AUPE family,” said President Guy Smith. “AUPE members are the backbone of Alberta’s health care system, and through solidarity with each other, they can ensure that they get the respect and fair treatment they deserve.”
AUPE represents more than 1,400 CapitalCare employees at six worksites in Edmonton.
