Multi-Employer ANC Agreement ratification ballots must be returned by Feb. 23

Posted January 30, 2006 in Health Care and tagged with anc

EDMONTON – Approximately 9,000 Alberta Union of Provincial Employees auxiliary nursing care members entitled to take part in the ratification vote for the Multi-Employer ANC Agreement must have their ballots back to union headquarters by Feb. 23.

Members can return their ballots by mail in the envelope that came with their information package, or they can vote at the remaining information meetings at various locations throughout the province, said AUPE Staff Negotiator Jim Petrie.

However, with many of the meetings now past, members who have still not voted will have to depend on the mail, and that means mailing their ballots in a timely fashion in order to meet the deadline, Petrie said.

The worksite meetings began Jan. 12 in Camrose and since then have been held in Edson, Wainwright, St. Paul, Ponoka, Vegreville, Edmonton, Red Deer, Grande Prairie, Castor and Fort McMurray. The remaining meetings are as follows:

  • TODAY, Jan. 30, LaCrete, 3 p.m., LaCrete Long-Term Care Centre
  • TODAY, Jan. 30, High Level, 7 p.m., Hospital
  • TODAY, Jan. 30, Pincher Creek, 7 p.m., Hospital
  • Jan. 31, Lethbridge, 2 p.m., Hospital

  • Feb. 1, Medicine Hat, 7 p.m., Hospital
  • Feb. 2, Brooks, 10 a.m., Hospital
  • Feb. 2, Drumheller, 3 p.m., Hospital
  • Feb. 2, Westlock, 6:30 p.m., Best Western Conference Room

AUPE’s Multi-Employer ANC Bargaining Committee is recommending that members vote YES to ratify the recommended settlement, which was presented to union and employer representatives by Mediator David Jones on Jan. 3.

A summary of the recommended settlement and other materials has been sent to all members eligible to vote for whom AUPE has current addresses. In all, the package of information included:

  • A ballot with a return envelope.
  • A summary of substantive changes to the agreement contained in the mediator’s recommendation.
  • A copy of the salary schedules from the mediator’s recommended settlement.

A full-text version of the collective agreement in PDF format may be accessed by clicking on the link at the bottom of this update.

Members who do not have Internet access can get a full copy of the text from their nearest AUPE Regional Office. Regional Offices can be telephoned toll-free from anywhere in Alberta by dialing 1-800-232-7284 and listening to the prompts.

Petrie urged members to read the information package with care and to vote Yes to ratify the mediator’s recommended agreement.

The agreement will affect all ANC employees of all Alberta health regions except the Calgary Health Region, which is conducting separate negotiations with AUPE.
