AT THE AUPE RED DEER REGIONAL OFFICE
The meeting was called to order at 10:20 a.m. with Philipia Bates-Renouf in the Chair.

ADOPTION OF AGENDA (1) MOTION: To adopt the Agenda. Properly moved and seconded. CARRIED
ADOPTION OF PREVIOUS MINUTES
(2) MOTION: To adopt the minutes of May 5, 2010.

BUSINESS ARISING OUT OF MINUTES
Leaflet – Social Equity – Tabled till September meeting.
Humanity Fund:
Phil took forth to Executive that we were bringing forth a resolution to convention. The executive say that it was done before and was shot down. We will still bring forth. Need to do a lot of research before convention.
Speakers for 2011 Conference:
We still have no speakers for conference. Will continue to look for speakers.
Book with other committees:
Education sector asking us to book conferences with other committees, we are ok with co-coordinating with other sectors.
Website:
Tabled till September meeting, Susan Slade not at this meeting.
Letters for recycle bags:
Phil did not have a chance to write letter. Will get it done over summer months.
Lancaster House Subscription:
(3) MOTION: To renew the subscription to Lancaster House, for a maximum cost of $300.00 Properly moved and seconded. CARRIED
PIA report:
P. Stewart has made up the report to attach to the minutes (attached).
Edmonton District Labour Council:
Deferred to September meeting.
Social Symposium:
Phil spoke to Shannon Philips from The Parkland Institute. They have held their symposium in Calgary, are planning one in Edmonton. She will be coming to the September meeting to speak to us. May be a good speaker for Conference.
Task Force Initiative:
Deferred to September meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
- Valley Park Manor Rally/Petition: Rally being held today at 11:30 am, notice put out to the Red Deer community, expecting a good turn out. Petition is going well collecting a lot of signatures.
- Pay & Social Equity Policy – Update: Committee members will review the Policy on Pay & Social Equity and come back to meeting in September. Tammy to review and update policy.
Meeting Recessed till after Red Deer Rally 10:45.
Meeting reconvened at 1:15 pm – Rally was well attended.
- Pay Equity contract language: Dave Vypond was the negotiator for BC Government Employees that negotiated pay Equity into their contract. He will be attending our September meeting to talk to us about how to get there. He may be a good speaker to have at our conference.
- The Committee is asked to read the Pay Equity Legislation in Canada in preparation for the September meeting.
- Training: The committee believes that education is the key to the success of promoting Pay Equity. It is important that we educate the committee members and the membership at large, on this topic.
- Resolutions/report to convention: Questions and answers for convention were discussed.
- Elda put forth an alternate resolution to be put forth at convention.
Resolution #4
WHEREAS AUPE has a responsibility to educate its members and the public on issues relating to social reform; and
WHEREAS AUPE should take strong action on addressing current social issues;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that AUPE establish the AUPE Humanity Fund with an initial contribution of $1.00 per member; and
THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that AUPE maintain the AUPE Humanity Fund with a yearly contribution of $1.00 per member per year; and
THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that All AUPE Locals be encouraged to make donations to the AUPE Humanity Fund.
(4) MOTION: To forward resolution #4 to the President’s office furtherance to the 2010 AUPE Convention Properly moved and seconded. CARRIED
- Health Sector Conference: Over $1400 and food was raised for the Lethbridge food bank.
- Golf Tournament – August 21/10: Phil will be attending the tournament and will be in charge of the food bank donations.
(5) MOTION: That the Pay and Social Equity put forth a golf team, paid by the Committee. Properly moved and seconded. CARRIED
- Debbie Arcand will be contacting committee members for interest in attending the golf tournament.
- Grandparents Day Picnic on September 9th at Legislative Grounds.
MEETING DATE
The next Pay & Social Equity Committee meeting will be held on September 14 & 15, 2010 commencing at 9:00 am at AUPE Headquarters.
