The meeting was called to order at 9:20 a.m. with Philipia Bates-Renouf in the Chair.

ADOPTION OF AGENDA

(1) MOTION: To adopt the Agenda. Properly moved and seconded. CARRIED

ADOPTION OF PREVIOUS MINUTES

(2) MOTION: To table the minutes of October 16, 2009. Properly moved and seconded. CARRIED

Susan would like to see expansion of last years Pay Equity Report done in the previous year. A lot of information/minutes not on the website. Susan requests that she have some website training so she can do updates. Philipia will check into setting it up for her.

Discussion was held around putting information on face-book. A lot of young people look at face-book. Susan Slade to take care of the website, she will check into linking website to face-book.

Photo needed of committee to put on website. Photo will be done at the next meeting.

BUSINESS ARISING FROM MINUTES

1. Resolution passed at convention about food bank donation.

Need committee volunteers to deliver food to food banks throughout the province. Discussion was held about giving to rural communities versus city food bank. Information about food bank donations should go in the Impact before convention and in the summer edition. We would like a flyer put in the convention package.

Labour School February 28 – March 4, 2010

Have a flyer put in each of the labor school package, asking each member to bring one item for the Jasper Food Bank. (780-852-8800)

Pay & Social Equity Committee is requesting all members attending Labour School this year to bring donations for the Jasper Food Bank. Elda Glover is to co-ordinate this event.

(4) MOTION: That all major annual events i.e.: convention, labour school, curling fun spiel, golf tournament will have a food bank donation drop off. Co-ordinated by the Pay & Social Equity Committee. Properly moved and seconded. CARRIED

Table to spring meeting

2. Review of evaluation summary from seminar (September 17&18 2009)

Lobby all levels of Alberta’s government for pay equity legislation in Alberta. Peggy Stewart to do up a letter writing campaign draft, brought to next meeting.

Continue to educate the members of AUPE.

Develop a 10 point “Did You Know” fact sheet to go along with the letter.

Update pay equity leaflet, Peggy S to bring last years draft to next meeting.

(5) MOTION: That the Chair of the Pay & Social Equity Committee put forth a letter to all local chairs to appoint or elect a contact person from their local. Properly moved and seconded. CARRIED

3. Pay & Social Equity Conference- will discuss in detail at the next meeting.

4. Mustard seed versus Habitat for Humanity.

5. Continue to compile a list of helping agencies ( shelters, food banks , soup kitchens etc). Phil will email Wendy and Judy to get lists.

6. Bargaining.

Encourage negotiating committees to address pay equity through negotiations, ie: Collapse of pay grids, start rate- job rate.

7. Communicating issues.

An ongoing issue. P.E. reps should be giving an update at every local meeting of what is going on with Pay & Social Equity.

NEW BUSINESS

Philipia will get information on Pay Equity Seminar.

Need copies of the Resolutions passed at Convention relating to Committee. Philipia will get for next meeting.

A bi-yearly 2 day conference should be held on an ongoing basis.

MEETING DATE

The next Pay and Social Equity Committee meeting will be held on March 19, 2010, commencing at 9:00 a.m. in the Red Deer Room and AUPE Headquarters.
