Memorial service for Joseph McKeown to be held Aug. 5
EDMONTON – A memorial service will be held for AUPE member Joe McKeown at CrossRoads Church in Red Deer at 1:30 p.m., Aug. 5, 2008.
Joseph Adam McKeown, 28, was employed at the Red Deer Remand Centre in Central Alberta. He died the morning of July 22 at the Solicitor General’s College in Edmonton. Colleagues performed CPR on McKeown while waiting for an ambulance to arrive but were unable to resuscitate him.
McKeown became a member of AUPE Local 003 just over one year ago. Four Honour Guard members from the Red Deer Remand Centre and Correctional Services traveled to New Brunswick for family services Monday and Tuesday, joined by two of McKeown’s close friends and fellow Correctional Peace Officers from Red Deer Remand Centre. Together, the group served as pallbearers in the service.
The CrossRoads Church is located on the southwest intersection of 32 Street and Queen Elizabeth II Highway. Guests are asked to not bring flowers, but instead donate to the Children’s Wish Foundation.
