Medicine Hat College staff ratify wage increases in final year of agreement
MEDICINE HAT – Medicine Hat College employees represented b – Medicine Hat College employees represented by Alberta Union of Provincial Employees Local 071, Chapter 005 overwhelmingly ratified a negotiated wage increase yesterday for the final year of their collective agreement.
“We negotiated a 4.5 per cent increase to all classifications except for those employees in classification levels 10 and 11, which will receive a 6.5 per cent increase,” said Staff Negotiator Dale Perry.
“We appreciate the College’s recognition of the valuable work provided by our members. The College came to the table with a willingness to provide a fair wage settlement in difficult economic times,” he added.
The ballot held at the college completes the wage-reopener provisions of the current three-year collective agreement, which expires on June 30, 2010.
A wage-reopener clause requires the parties in a collective agreement to sit down in a specified year of the agreement to negotiate a wage increase, rather than determining all increases at the time the agreement is ratified.
AUPE represents approximately 160 employees in support services classifications at Medicine Hat College.
