MacLennan to make final report as president of AUPE this morning

EDMONTON – AUPE’s annual convention will begin at 9 a.m. this morning with an opening ceremony, followed immediately by outgoing President Dan MacLennan’s farewell report.

WHY: 30th Annual Convention and presidential by-election

Delegates to the 30th annual AUPE convention will also have the opportunity to say goodbye to their long-serving president immediately after his report, which will be given in both a video format and in personal remarks.

The convention will open at 9 a.m. sharp, with more than 700 delegates, observers, Life Members, guests and staff singing O Canada and Solidarity Forever.

Media are welcome to attend the opening and MacLennan’s farewell, as well as any other part of the convention, which is being held at the Delta Edmonton South Hotel and Convention Centre, 4404 Gateway Blvd., in Edmonton.

In addition, AUPE members, media and members of the public are welcome to listen in on the convention proceedings via Webcast.

To listen to the audio Webcast, Internet users should go to the AUPE home page – www.aupe.org – and click on the “Webcast” icon on the lower-right-hand side of the page. Internet users will require Windows Media Player to hear the Webcast.

At the top of the agenda this year will be the election of a replacement for MacLennan, who has been president since 1997. A candidates’ forum is scheduled for 3 p.m. this afternoon, and voting is expected to take place throughout Friday morning.
