CALGARY – As part of AUPE’s 30th Anniversary festivities, Local 052 at the University of Calgary will hold its Membership Appreciation Barbecue a month from now, on Wednesday, Aug. 30.

The event — which will go ahead rain or shine — will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the south lawn of the MacEwan Student Centre.

It will be the fourth annual summer barbecue held by the local, which represents more than 2,800 support employees of the university.

AUPE President Dan MacLennan will attend the barbecue.

Local 052 is distributing coupons to its members. With a coupon, members are entitled to a free hamburger, chips and a beverage. Without a coupon, the same meal can be had for $5, with all proceeds going to the Campus Food Bank. A total of 1,300 meals will be served.

Coupons may be entered for draws on the day of the barbecue, and a 50/50 draw — one ticket for $1, three for $2 and an arm’s length of $5 — will be held, with proceeds going to the Campus Food Bank.

Musical entertainment will be provided by the West Forty Fanatics.

On Aug. 30 at 11:30 a.m., a shuttle bus service will begin delivering members from the Health Sciences Building to the main campus. Buses will depart the Rozsa Centre until 1:30 p.m.
