Linda Laminman receives AUPE’s 2010 DOVE Award
EDMONTON – Long-time Local 003 activist Linda Laminman will receive the 2010 DOVE Award today at AUPE Headquarters.
Laminman, who has been an AUPE member since 1985, was selected from a field of qualified nominees for the annual award recognizing the contribution of individual women to others and the labour movement.
Laminman is a Correctional Service Worker at the Red Deer Remand Centre, and is in her seventh year as a member of the Local 003 Executive. She has also been a valued member of the AUPE Finance Committee for five years, and has attended many Conventions and rallies as an AUPE Local 003 representative.
Laminman’s nominator, Clarke McChesney, wrote, “As a woman in this union and in our local, there are many roadblocks that impede the way. Linda broke through those with fierce abandon and unbridled passion… She has been a great inspiration to me and countless other activists, both grass roots and experienced members alike.”
Laminman is also active in the Red Deer community, coaching Special Olympics curling and leading the women’s golf league at her club.
The DOVE Award will be presented by Sandra Azocar, chair of AUPE’s Women’s Committee, and Guy Smith, AUPE President, at 10 a.m. at AUPE Headquarters, 10451 – 170 Street, on the second floor. Members of the media are welcome to attend the ceremony.
The DOVE Award, which stands for “Day of Validation and Equity,” was created in 2001 to honour female members who have made major contributions to the betterment of women and all members of the union.
