Lifestyles seniors’ care staff join AUPE

Posted October 02, 2012 in Health Care

EDMONTON – Auxiliary Nursing Care staff at Lifestyles seniors’ residence voted to join Alberta’s largest union on Sept. 25 in an Alberta Labour Relations Board supervised vote at the worksite.

“We’re pleased staff at Lifestyles chose AUPE to represent them,” said AUPE President Guy Smith. “We welcome them to the AUPE family.”

Staff at Lifestyles approached AUPE during the strike at Revera Riverbend, the seniors’ care residence in southwest Edmonton, this summer.

“After seeing what the union was doing for the staff we represent at Revera Riverbend, employees at Lifestyles asked AUPE to represent them to ensure greater job protection and security,” said Smith.

“They know AUPE is at the forefront of the fight for quality seniors’ care and fairness for the staff who look after them,” he said.

AUPE represents close to 80,000 working Albertans. Close to half work in public, not, for-profit and private, for-profit health care in the province.
