Improved AUPE Website will be launched tomorrow
EDMONTON – AUPE’s Website — www.aupe.org — will be re-launched tomorrow with a new look and improved features.
“When AUPE launched its original Website in 1997, no one had any idea that it would become the key communications tool for our members that it is today,” said AUPE President Dan MacLennan.
“But with the growth in the Internet worldwide, increasing numbers of AUPE’s members now rely on our union’s Website as their primary source of information about our activities as a union,” he said.
“With their needs in mind, we are introducing major changes to the site tomorrow.”
The improvements are designed to make the Website easier for members and others to use, said AUPE Communications Director David Climenhaga.
However, he added, the redesign is also designed to keep all the features that AUPE members like about the site.
The content of the site will remain virtually the same, but the organization of the site’s information should make it easier for users to get to the information they require quickly.
“ Our goal was to add improvements to the site without losing any of the accessibility to information that AUPE members have now,” he explained.
Among the changes that will make the site easier to use will be:
- Reorganization of information to make sections of interest to members easier to find.
- Refinements to the Website’s search capability.
- Organization of information into areas of interest to members of each of AUPE’s four sectors — Government Services, Health Care, Education, and Boards, Agencies and Local Governments.
- The ability for readers to increase or decrease the size of type on the Website for ease of reading.
- A new administrative tool that will help AUPE Communications staff respond more quickly and efficiently to the information needs of union members.
The new version of the Website will continue to be found at the same Internet address — www.aupe.org.
AUPE’s Website currently receives well over 500 individual visits to the site every day, with some days approaching 1,000 visits, said AUPE Communications Director David Climenhaga.
AUPE’s Website also contains information of value to media, including immediate access to all AUPE news releases and member communications, biographical material on AUPE elected officials and spokespeople, and high-resolution photos of AUPE President MacLennan.
