Gawne scholarship awarded

Posted October 27, 2011 in Union Updates, Members' Benefits Committee and tagged with Scholarship

Julianne Belzille is the winner of the AUPE’s 2011 Brent Gawne Memorial Scholarship. Her winning essay, “A Growing Problem,” was one of 24 submitted.

This year’s essay competition required entrants to write about “the impacts of the privatization of long-term care facilities on residents and families.” Entries were assessed by an independent evaluator.

Belzille will receive $2,500 in recognition of her achievement and to help defray the costs of her education. The scholarship was created to honour the memory of Brent Gawne, a noted Canadian labour lawyer who served AUPE for many years before passing away in 2005.
