Fourth Annual AUPE Curling Funspiel set for March 27-28

EDMONTON – EDMONTON—The Fourth Annual AUPE Curling Funspiel is scheduled to take place March 27-28 at the Spruce Grove Curling Club.

“The Funspiel always draws a great bunch of enthusiastic members and sends them home with good memories,” said event organizer Gil LaFlamme.

“We’ve had three outstanding years with the Funspiel and we’re improving it all the time,” he added.

A “Vegas Night” will be held following the conclusion of games on Friday, March 27, Laflamme said. Participants will be given poker chips they can use at Roulette, Texas Hold ’em, Black Jack and Caribbean poker tables. At the end of the evening, participants will trade in their poker chips for entry forms, which will then be put into a draw for prizes.

The cost per foursome for the event is $200 and guarantees teams three, six-end games as well as the opportunity to win door prizes. The up-front cost is a $20 increase from last year, but LaFlamme said the fee “now includes the loser’s draw, which most teams paid an extra $20 for last year.”

On Saturday, a full dinner will follow the final draw. There will also be a silent auction, a social and the chance to win draw-to-the-button prizes.

Proceeds from the event will go to a charity selected through a random draw held during the event.

Locals, companies or other organizations that would like to help sponsor the event with cash or prize donations may contact Laflamme at 780-916-5100 or 780-930-3375, or Heather Yuhasz at 780-930-3314.

The registration deadline is March 13 at 4:30 p.m. A maximum of 24 teams will be accepted.

To register, click on the Curling logo on the home page, or the link at the bottom of this story, print the registration form, fill it out and fax it to 780-930-3392, c/o Heather Yuhasz.
