Fifth Annual Curling Funspiel a roaring success

Posted March 30, 2010 in Union Updates and tagged with curling

SPRUCE GROVE – More than 100 players, volunteers and sponsors descended on the Spruce Grove Curling Club last week for AUPE’s own Roar of the Rings event, the Fifth Annual AUPE Curling Funspiel, and while the level of curling skill might not have been world-class, the atmosphere and enjoyment certainly was.

Over the two days of the Funspiel, participants enjoyed three games, food, fun, and prizes. They also collected 184 kilograms of food, valued by the Parkland Food Bank at $810.

The proceeds of the Funspiel will be donated to the Stollery Children’s Hospital of Edmonton. The full donation amount has yet to be determined. The Win House, a project of the Edmonton Women’s Shelter, was the recipient of the Loser’s Draw prize of $200.

“We’d like to thank all the sponsors, volunteers and participants,” said Heather Seitz, one of the organizers of the event. “I’d also like to thank Gil Laflamme, who worked tirelessly to make sure all the teams were filled. Everyone has just been amazing, and we hope everyone had a great time.”

The dates for the 2011 Curling Funspiel are set for Mar. 25 and 26, 2011.
