Extendicare Mayerthorpe employees ratify two-year pact with 7% pay increases
MAYERTHORPE – Members of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees employed by the Extendicare continuing care facility in this northwest Alberta community have voted to ratify a two-year collective agreement containing pay increases totaling seven per cent.
The approximately 65 employees of the private Extendicare Mayerthorpe nursing home represented by AUPE Local 047/006 voted yesterday at their workplace to approve the new contract, which includes a four-per-cent pay increase in the first year and a three-per-cent increase in the second, said union Staff Negotiator Steve Nimchuk.
Nimchuk said the agreement also contains improvements to weekend premium pay and the inclusion for the first time of shift differential pay.
In addition, he said, the agreement includes improvements to overtime pay, an increase in employer contributions to members’ retirement savings and a no-contracting-out provision.
