Edmonton musicians banding together to Save Alberta Hospital Edmonton
EDMONTON – Five Edmonton bands, including the well-known Bill Bourne, are taking to the stage at the Edmonton Events Centre at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 28 to shine a light on the need for the psychiatric programs at Alberta Hospital Edmonton.
The doors open at 6:00 pm and a public presentation by psychiatrists from Alberta Hospital Edmonton and the community will kick off the event at 7:00 pm.
Following the presentation, several artists and bands will perform including the well-known Bill Bourne, Dani Jean, September Stone, Hollywood Assassyn and Killinger. The event is being organized by an advocacy group set up by local musicians called Friends of D.A.V.I.D.’S. (Friends of the Disadvantaged Against Violence Illness Despair and Suicide).
“We’re extremely encouraged to see the music community rallying behind this cause and bringing more public attention to social cost involved in closing beds at Alberta Hospital Edmonton,” said AUPE President Guy Smith.
“Keeping our mental health infrastructure intact is essential to our health care system and the well being of all Albertans,” said David Williams, lead singer of Killinger and a key organizer behind Friends of D.A.V.I.D.’S.
Tickets for the event are $14.50 including service charges, available through Ticketmaster or at the door.
A press conference will take place in advance of the event with performing musician members of the Friends of D.A.V.I.D.’S. (David Williams, Bill Bourne and Dani Jean) and A.U.P.E. president Guy Smith at the Edmonton Events Center (8882-170 St.) at 3 pm Sat., Nov. 28.
