EDMONTON CATHOLIC SEPARATE SCHOOL DISTRICT EMPLOYEES
EDMONTON – Support employees of the Edmonton Catholic Separate School District have voted to join the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees.
“We welcome these 350 new members to AUPE in the confidence that they have made the right decision in joining Alberta’s largest and fastest growing union,” AUPE President Dan MacLennan said today after the votes were counted.
“This vote shows that AUPE remains the union of choice among public sector employees in Alberta and that our union’s dramatic growth continues,” MacLennan said.
In the education sector AUPE represents more than 6,000 members, including support staff at many post-secondary institutions and at the Living Waters Catholic Regional Division in the Hinton, Edson, Whitecourt and Slave Lake areas, he added.
Voting in the Alberta Labour Relations Board mail-in vote took place over the past two weeks.
The new AUPE members — who are employed by the school district as custodial, maintenance, warehouse and cafeteria workers — had been members of a single-local staff association.
They will now become part of the 60,000-plus-member AUPE, Alberta’s largest union.
