Deer Meadows votes with heavy support for AUPE representation
CAMROSE – General Support Services (GSS) staff members employed at the Deer Meadows Lodge of Bethany Nursing Homes of Camrose have voted overwhelmingly to join AUPE. The worksite vote took place Sept. 23 and was supervised by the Alberta Labour Relations Board.
“The unionization of Deer Meadows GSS workers by AUPE means the union has successfully organized all worksites for Bethany Nursing Homes of Camrose,” AUPE President Guy Smith said. “We are happy knowing that these employees will enjoy the advantages of AUPE representation.”
“AUPE proudly represents auxiliary nursing care (ANC) and GSS staff at Bethany Group Camrose Tri Lodges, Bethany Long Term Care, and the Rosehaven Care Centre and we are excited to see Deer Meadows join them in joining our union,” said Smith.
The Deer Meadows worksite will be added to what’s currently called the Bethany Group Camrose Tri Lodges.
The new GSS members are employed in housekeeping, cleaning and food services at the facility.
Members at Deer Meadows Lodge are pleased to have a strong union like AUPE representing them when it comes to issues like bargaining and labour relations.
“The union will bring the kind of benefits, security and democratic representation the GSS employees at Deer Meadows deserve,” Smith added.
AUPE is Alberta’s largest union with more than 75,000 members province-wide, roughly 38,000 employed in ANC and GSS positions.
Camrose is located approximately 90 kilometres southeast of Edmonton.
