Committee on Political Action urges government to improve education funding

Posted September 13, 2011 in Education, Committee on Political Action

EDMONTONAUPE Vice President Glen Scott called on the provincial government to restore funding cut from this year’s education budget in order to put Albertans back to work.

“We know that cuts to education have cost our members’ jobs in the Edmonton Catholic School system, and it’s the same story across the province” said Scott.

Scott chairs the AUPE Committee on Political Action, which is setting up a lemonade stand on the Legislature grounds over the lunch hour “to help the government raise funds for K-12 education in Alberta.”

“We want to raise the issue of cuts to the education system in a light-hearted way, but we’re raising a serious question – how is it that in a growing province so rich in natural resources and business activity that we’re laying off school employees?” said Scott.
