EDMONTON – Participants in AUPE’s Charity Golf Tournament helped to raise $28,000 for the Edmonton Humane Society during the union’s third annual event held Aug. 25 at Edmonton’s River Ridge Golf and Country Club.

Close to 160 golfers, volunteers and sponsors took part in the annual event, which raised money to help the society reach its goal of building a new $18 million facility on Edmonton’s west side.

Local 003 member Linda Laminman set the bar high for future events, sinking a hole-in-one on Hole #15 and winning the Closest to the Pin Women’s title.

AUPE thanks all the volunteers and sponsors such as The Personal Insurance, Johnson Inc., Morgex Insurance and Servus Credit Union for making the event a success, said Scott Pattison of AUPE’s Communications staff, who co-organized the this year’s tournament with Heather Yuhasz, who works in the union’s Records Department.

“We wouldn’t be able to pull off such a successful event year after year without their continued commitment,” he said.

A cheque for $28,000 will be presented to the Humane Society in the near future.
