Carewest GSS employees ratify three-year agreement with 9% pay increase
CALGARY – Carewest general support services employees represented by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees yesterday ratified a new three-year collective agreement containing pay increases of nine per cent over the life of the contract.
Members of AUPE Local 048/008 employed at the Carewest Glenmore Park continuing-care facility in Calgary’s southwest voted at their workplace to approve the agreement, which contains pay increases of three per cent in each year, said Staff Negotiator Ken Cutrell.
All of the approximately 60 employees in the bargaining unit, including dietary workers, will qualify for the pay increases, added Cutrell, who led the local’s bargaining committee in negotiations with the non-profit Calgary continuing-care provider.
Cutrell said other improvements in the agreement include:
- Better sick-leave provisions that include the addition of three paid family illness days.
- Inclusion in bereavement leave provisions of a paid day off in the event of the death of a close friend.
Carewest is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Calgary Health Region.
“On behalf of all of us in the bargaining unit and at AUPE, we wish the employer and all Albertans a Merry Christmas and a happy holiday season,” Cutrell concluded.
