Posted June 06, 2011 in Union Updates, Young Activists Committee and tagged with award, slow pitch, young activists

It’s not too late to enter your mixed slo-pitch team in the Young Activist Committee’s second annual ball tournament in Sundre.

The entry deadline is June 18 for the tournament, which runs June 25 and 26. The team fee is just $150.

AUPE Vice President Jason Heistad, who chairs the committee, said the event is a charity fundraiser. Last year the event raised money for school lunch program in Sundre.

For more information, call Heistad at (403) 373-2532.

Meanwhile, the committee is still accepting nominations for its inaugural Young Activist Award, which will be presented on Aug. 12, International Youth Day.

Nominees should be AUPE members aged 30 or younger who advocate for others on the jobsite or work with the union to improve working conditions. Or, they could be members who work with labour to improve society and inspire others to take part in labour-supported causes.

To nominate a deserving young activist, download the nomination from the AUPE website. Nominations may be submitted by an AUPE member or group of members. Nominations do not have to be approved by an AUPE Local Council, but the committee encourages discussion a the Local Council.

The deadline for nominations is July 1.

The winner will be announced on Aug. 12 on the AUPE website and the committee will present the award to the individual at his or her worksite.
