EDMONTON – Participants of AUPE’s Second Annual Charity Golf Tournament helped to raise more than $15,000 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation at Saturday’s event.

“Suffice to say, we’re extremely thrilled about being able to raise more than $15,000 for this year’s worthy cause, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation,” said Scott Pattison, Tournament Organizer.

“In only two years, members of AUPE, the public and our sponsors, have come together to raise close to $25,000 for charity.”

For the second consecutive year, a full field of golfers teed off at Edmonton’s River Ridge Golf and Country Club under beautiful, sunny skies Saturday, as temperatures soared to 27 C.

The team of Shari McGlashing, Tim Jackson, Tonya Malo and Mike Rennick captured Low Score honours shooting the proverbial lights out with a score of 62.

On the other end of the spectrum, the team of Terry Nicholson-Knudson, Peter Teskey, Nancy Rakowski and Brenda Arbuthnott finished the day with a score of 107, thus laying claim to bragging rights as the High Score winners for 2006.

Linda Laminman bested Miranda Koroluk and three other participants to bring home the hardware for Women’s Longest Drive on Hole #6, with Jamie Kyle taking the corresponding Men’s title on hole #18.

Crystal Foley captured top honours in the Women’s Closest to the Pin category on Hole #15, while Tim Jackson bested Richard Pierson and three other participants to win the Men’s Closest to the Pin honours on Hole #8.
Unfortunately, none of the 144 participants were lucky enough to win any of the four hole-in-one prizes (three for $10,000 and a 2006 Pontiac Torrent SUV).

Following an afternoon of golf, participants sat down to a beautiful steak dinner, which was following by a successful Silent Auction and draws for seven primary door prizes, including a Seattle/NFL trip package for two.

“Everything went smoothly this year,” said Pattison adding, “I’m grateful to my fellow committee members, Heather Yuhasz and Sher Bourassa for their help over the last year, and to our game-day volunteers and sponsors who supported this important fundraiser.

“We hope to see everyone out again next year.”

Corporations that helped to make this year’s tournament a success, include:

  • GOLD SPONSORS
    • The Personal Insurance Company
    • Johnson Inc./Morgex Insurance
  • SILVER SPONSORS
    • Bell Mobility
    • American Income Life

A total of 14 AUPE Locals and/or Chapters and AUPE’s Women’s Committee also made various contributions. They include Locals 001, 003, 004, 009, 012, 043, 044, 044/006, 045, 046, 049, 054, 056, 060 and 118.

A final fundraising tally will be announced as soon as figures are available.
